In 2022, my husband and I made some big investments in our lives that, at first glance, seemed outrageously expensive. But as it turns out, these purchases have been surprisingly amazing and well worth the price tag. From upgrading our vehicle to improving our sleep quality and health, here are some of the most expensive purchases we made this year that have exceeded our expectations.

Now, let’s get into the 6 outrageously expensive purchases (my husband and) I made in 2022 that were surprisingly amazing!
1. Tesla Model Y Performance
I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant when my husband and I decided to splurge on a Tesla Model Y Performance this year. It was a large investment, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much the car has exceeded our expectations on multiple levels.
First and foremost, the features and performance of the Model Y are truly impressive. The car handles beautifully, with smooth acceleration and responsive steering. The all-electric drivetrain provides instant torque and impressive speed, and the range is more than enough for our daily needs. We’ve also been pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of the car, and are able to commute the Tesla Model Y Performance to work and back on the highway with extra battery life to spare.

2. Tempur-ProBreeze 12″ Medium Hybrid Mattress & Temper-Ergo Extend Smart Adjustable Base
Another very large purchase my husband and I definitely went overboard and over budget on in 2022 was the Tempur-ProBreeze 12″ Medium Hybrid Mattress and Temper-Ergo Extend Smart Adjustable Base. It was a very large expense, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much the new mattress and adjustable base have become a much appreciated addition to our bedroom.

The mattress combines the supportive qualities of memory foam with the cooling properties of a breathable, open-cell construction, making it the perfect balance of comfort and support. 3. Adult Braces
As an adult, getting braces was a significant expense that I was initially hesitant to take on. Even though I was literally gritting my teeth at the hefty investment involved with cosmetic dental work, there were many benefits that I found came with getting braces (for the second time) as an adult.
The process of getting braces as an adult is similar to that of a child, but with some additional steps. First, I had to visit an orthodontist for a consultation and evaluation of my teeth and mouth. The orthodontist then created a treatment plan, which included the type and length of treatment, as well as the cost.
Once I had a plan in place, I had to undergo a series of appointments to have the braces installed. This involved having brackets and wires attached to my teeth, as well as regular adjustments to ensure that the braces were properly aligned. The entire process took several months, and required a significant amount of time and investment.
Despite the cost and inconvenience of getting braces as an adult, I have been pleasantly surprised by the many benefits that have come with the treatment. My smile is now much straighter and more attractive, and I was able to complete my treatment in less than a year. I am currently awaiting my final appointment to get them removed and a permanent retainer put in place.

5. Home Gym
As night shift nurses, my husband and I struggle with maintaining consistency at the gym and eating healthy. We were able to solve one half of this problem by investing in a home gym. We purchased a squatting rack, a full weight set, Peloton Bike Plus, and also incorporated thick, heavy-duty floor mat tiles to protect our garage floors from damage. The home gym came with a hefty initial investment price tag, but there were many benefits and conveniences that we were happy to realize came with our new home gym.
First and foremost, the equipment we purchased for our home gym is top-quality and provides a wide range of options for our workouts. The squatting rack is sturdy and versatile, and the weight set includes a variety of sizes and styles of weights to suit our needs. 6. New Home
By far our absolute biggest and most outrageously expensive purchase of 2022 was the investment we made in our new home. We did this during a less than ideal time when inflation was on the rise, interest rates were climbing, and the housing market was extremely volatile. Also the house we found needed some serious updating. After much discussion and deliberation, my husband and I chose to take this plunge and make the purchase.
The process of buying a new house was stressful and complex, but ultimately, we were excited to have found the perfect home for our family. The house is larger, in a great location, and with all of the amenities that we wanted. We were also able to negotiate a price we were content with, despite the challenging market conditions.
Now that we have been living in our new home for about four months, we have come to realize that there are many benefits to this outrageously expensive purchase. The house has exceeded our expectations in terms of size, location, and features, and we are thrilled with the great school district for our children. Additionally, we are confident that our investment in a new home will increase in value over time, providing us with long-term financial benefits.
One of the biggest benefits of our new home is that we are able to use our old property as a rental, which has provided for us a means of earning passive income. This will help to offset some of the costs of our new home and allow us to build additional wealth. Overall, despite the challenges we faced in the process, we are very happy with our decision to invest in a new home and are excited to continue enjoying all of its benefits in the years to come.
